ANSI Z87.1 compliance

What ANSI Z87.1 covers, how it applies to prescription assemblies, and how to request HiDX certification documents.

HiDX frames are supplied to meet ANSI Z87.1, the American National Standard for Occupational and Educational Personal Eye and Face Protection. It is the benchmark specified across North American industry and referenced by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.133.

What the standard covers

  • ANSI Z87.1 is the governing standard for occupational eye protection in North America, covering impact resistance, optical clarity, coverage and durability.
  • Impact resistance. Z87.1 sets out both basic and high-impact classifications, tested by drop ball and high-velocity projectile methods against the lens and frame together.
  • Coverage. Protectors must guard against hazards arriving from the side as well as the front, which is why side shields are integral to the HiDX range.
  • Prescription glazing. Where a frame is glazed to prescription, the finished protector must be certified as an assembly. Work with a qualified laboratory and confirm marking requirements.

Before tender

Certification marking, impact classification and any regional approvals should be confirmed against current documentation for each model before tender submission.

Certification documents

Test certification and declarations of conformity are shared on request rather than as public downloads. Send your details and the models you need, and the HiDX team will be in touch.
